Summary

As an Apprentice Maintenance Technician, you will work safely alongside the Service Engineering team to develop the skills and experience to support you in your apprenticeship, ultimately equipping you to progress onto a L3 Engineering Apprenticeship and into the role of Maintenance Technician.

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

Teamwork:

  • Observe the Engineers at work to learn about the mechanical workings of access platforms
  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance and repairs to Horizon’s access platforms as instructed by the relevant team members or supervisors
  • Work closely with all members of the team to ensure an efficient and professional service
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to keep them updated on job progress
  • Work flexibly, helping with reasonable ad-hoc duties as required to support the efficient and effective running of the Service department

Ownership:

  • Carry out a range of urgent and minor repairs to Horizon’s access platforms
  • Carry out routine maintenance and cleaning, ensuring all repair work is recorded
  • Ensure all communal areas within the facility are kept clean and tidy
  • Carry out garden and landscape maintenance
  • Keep all yard areas well-swept and free of debris
  • Wash machines to Horizon standard, in readiness for pre-delivery inspections (PDIs)
  • Support the PDI team with carrying out machine inspections (once fully trained to do so), providing additional PDI resources during peak times
  • Disassemble and re-build machines, ahead of and following in-house refurbishment
  • Support machine servicing by changing fuel and oil proactively
  • Support the productive use of the battery regeneration bay to ensure consistent throughput 
  • Work to detailed instructions to carry out repairs under close supervision
  • Consistently update own technical knowledge
  • Ensure that company tools, equipment and consumables are kept safe, clean, serviceable, accounted for and returned to their designated location
