Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
So, what's the role about?
You will be trained within a multi-disciplined maintenance team at this service centres, during your training you will experience all aspects of electrical and mechanical maintenance including automation. You will also get the chance to move across other service centres in the UK during the programme to ensure you have a well-balanced training experience.
Your development will be supported with a mentor and manager and will include:
• Completing a full apprenticeship programme
• Follow all health & safety procedures
• Maintain electrical, mechanical and automation equipment
• Seek ways to improve all processes and procedures relating to maintenance
• Develop excellent technical communication skills
• Conversant in engineering maintenance theories and principles
• Perform first-line routine mechanical and electrical maintenance, including removing and replacing components, cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and fault finding
What is the key attribute for this role?
• Minimum of 18 years of age due to health and safety and safeguarding

• Following the successful completion of your apprenticeship, subject to role availability, you can apply for a permanent shift technician role.
• Further in-house and external training and development are available, including continuing higher education and academic studies in engineering.

Your training plan
Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll work towards several academic and vocational qualification levels throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including:
- Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Foundation Competence – in year 1, in 6-week blocks to include 4 weeks at Make UK and 2 weeks in a company
- Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Competence - in years 2 to 4 in the company
- Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Knowledge - in Years 2 & 3 on block release to Make UK
- In-house training in line with your requirements
- Further qualifications deemed necessary by your employer
On completion of your studies, you will achieve your full apprenticeship certification that will prove competence as a Level 3 Engineering Technician.

Other Information • Candidates will have to live in provided accommodation when attending the college for technical training (except for those who live locally to Birmingham). Costs will be paid by the company. Candidates will have to travel back to accommodation on the Sunday to be ready for Monday morning start but will have a half day on Friday to travel home.
