Certiero provide embodied and whole life carbon assessments of new and refurbished buildings. We are seeking a Data Technician Apprentice to support our growing workload and to help deliver a high-quality service to our key clients.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
The Data Technician will support colleagues in the delivery of high-quality embodied carbon and whole life carbon assessment of new and refurbished buildings.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Gather quantity, product carbon, transport, and wastage data from drawings, bills of quantities, specifications, and the supply chains of main contractors
- Compile high-quality building datasets aligned with industry standards (e.g., RICS Whole Life Carbon, BREEAM) and internal processes
- Conduct carbon calculations (pre-construction, during construction, and post-construction phases) using One Click LCA software
- Interrogate data to identify carbon hotspots and key materials
- Benchmark building performance against industry standards (e.g., Net Zero Carbon Building Standard, RIBA) and client portfolios
- Quantify the impact of carbon reduction measures adopted during construction
- Prepare visualisations, final reports and presentations for clients
- Determine areas for improvements within client’s standard specifications
- Undertake quality assurance and peer review of technical output
- Assist with general project administration, management and progress tracking
- Support colleagues in the development and improvement of standard operating procedures, systems and processes

- Source and migrate data from already identified different sources.
- Collect, format and save datasets.
- Summarise and explain gathered data.
- Blend data sets from multiple sources and present in format appropriate to the task.
- Manipulate and link different data sets as required.
- Use tools and techniques to identify trends and patterns in data.
- Apply basic statistical methods and algorithms to identify trends and patterns in data.
- Apply cross checking techniques for identifying faults and data results for data project requirements.
- Audit data results.
- Demonstrate the different ways of communicating meaning from data in line with audience requirements.
- Produce clear and consistent technical documentation using standard organisational templates.
- Store, manage and distribute in compliance with data security standards and legislation.
- Explain data and results to different audiences in a way that aids understanding.
- Review own development needs.
- Keep up to date with developments in technologies, trends and innovation using a range of sources.
- Clean data i.e. remove duplicates, typos, duplicate entries, out of date data, parse data (e.g. format telephone numbers according to a national standard) and test and assess confidence in the data and its integrity.
- Operate as part of a multi-functional team.
- Prioritise within the context of a project.

Your training plan
Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 3 Data Technician, with training in how to:
- Identify the right data sources for your business to inform decision-making
- Collect, compile and cleanse data accurately and securely
- Identify, analyse and interpret data, trends, and patterns
- Produce dashboards and reports to aid visualisation and comparison
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 5 GCSE's including Maths and English (grade 5)

Other requirements
This role is completely remote working, therefore you must feel confident that you will be able to complete tasks successfully without being in the office. Support will still be available online via platforms such as Microsoft teams
