Summary

Applying coatings to precision components, responsible for the quality/accuracy of work, ensuring it meets specification under the supervision of a mentor sharing their knowledge. This will give a solid foundation/understanding of the industry. Develop relationships across our business. Transform components into something tangible to sell.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

  • Set up, check AND adjust the equipment for use in the safe and reliable finishing of metal products or components and maintaining the equipment in a reliable and safe condition throughout
  • Alter the products using various coating methods in line with customer technical drawings, CAD, patterns and templates meeting the required specification and quality requirements
  • Carry out performance testing and quality assurance activities for full compliance to specifications
  • Identify paint defects and take corrective action with a focus on quality and problem solving
  • Follow instructions and guidance, demonstrate attention to detail, follow a logical approach to problem solving and seek opportunities to improve quality, speed and efficiency

  • Comply with engineering standards and regulations. For example, British Standards (BS), International Organisation for Standardisation standards (ISO). European Norm (EN).
  • Analyse engineering and manufacturing data and information to support technical outputs. For example, read and interpret text, data, engineering drawings, work instructions, method statements, operation manuals.

Your training plan

Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician Level 3.

First 10 months attending Gloucester Engineering Training daily.
Month 11 to completion, learning and development will take place at our Tewkesbury factory under guidance of a mentor for 4 days and 1 day per week at G.E.T.

20% of the apprenticeship will be off-the-job training, with 80% on-the-job.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 9 - 4)
  • Maths (grade 9 - 4)

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • 2 other subjects (grade 9 - 4)
  • Science (grade 9 - 4)
