What you’ll do at work
An incredible opportunity has arisen to join Proteus Facades as an Apprentice CAD Engineer. Proteus delivers projects all over the world under some of the most challenging logistical circumstances.
This apprenticeship is for anyone looking to start a career in facades and structural metalwork detailing, you will learn about modelling/detailing; co-ordination between work packages; onsite buildability and construction methods. You will be developing skills that will put you at the leading edge of modern construction techniques.
You will be responsible for:
- Preparing detailed engineering designs for structural metalwork.
- Producing technical drawings and schedules.
- Working with clients and contractor partners.
- Assisting with the development of 3D Revit models to contract design information and deadlines.
Utilising various methods of communication as and when required.

- Apply health and safety procedures and safe systems of work in compliance with regulations and standards.
- Work in accordance with the design process, company management systems, policies and procedures.
- Review and interpret technical information and requirements from different sources such as specifications, engineering drawings, concepts, stakeholders.
- Identify and assess factors that affect designs such as materials, application, location, risk and environment.
- Select materials and parts.
- Propose and evaluate ideas for sustainable engineering concepts to solve engineering challenges.
- Develop solutions that can be manufactured or built, and proven, operated and maintained during their operational life and decommissioned or recycled at the end of their operational life.
- Provide feedback on engineering designs.
- Apply quality assurance procedures to engineering drawings or models, including own designs and those of peers.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Produce written documents, schedules and reports.
- Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks with consideration for cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact.
- Identify inaccuracies or discrepancies in drawings and specifications and propose solutions.
- Incorporate changes to an existing design as a result of any modifications made during the as-built implementation.

Your training plan
- 2 ½ Year Apprenticeship Programme.
- Design and Draughting Skills, Knowledge & Behaviours – delivered in the workplace.
- Level 3 BTEC in Construction and the Built Environment – Day Release or Remote Delivery (Optional qualification).
- Specialist Training Programme Blocks of your choice.
- End Point Assessment – Knowledge Test, Practical Test and Presentation/Interview.

GCSE in:

Other requirements
Apprentices must show commitment to the following: •To achieve apprenticeship standard within the specified time frame •Attend the apprenticeship induction programme •Attend all of the training sessions for the programme whenever necessary •Undertake any other required development work as part of the apprenticeship programme as requested •Any other duties as deemed appropriate by senior staff. Computer literacy is essential: Candidates must be competent in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience of CAD software is not essential as full training will be given. The role of a digital engineering apprentice could be the first step into a varied and exciting career! You will need to have an interest in engineering and design, alongside the ability to manage your time well and work to strict deadlines. The role is mainly office-based, but there will also be opportunities to visit different sites, where you will be able to see what you have designed come to life. You will need to be aware of, and work to different industry standards. A mentor will work alongside you to support your development during the apprenticeship but you will also need to take responsibility for managing your own workload and show initiative.

After this apprenticeship
Once you have completed your apprenticeship, you will have the chance to work as a qualified digital engineering technician if you are the right candidate for the role, which in turn can lead on to design office manager or other senior level roles within the organisation.
