Summary

An exciting opportunity to train to become an AAT qualified Accountant or ATT qualified tax technician within a thriving accountancy practice with excellent routes for progression. Initially, as an apprentice you will work within a supportive team environment to complete accounts, audit or tax preparation work for the firm's clients.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Initially, as an apprentice you will be trained within a supportive team environment in one of 3 areas:

  • Accounts - preparation of year-end, management accounts and bookkeeping records. Analysing bank accounts and creating and checking control accounts.  Accounting for fixed assets
  • Audit - completing bank, debtors and profit & loss sections of the audit, the majority of work being completed at client premises
  • Tax - preparation of corporation and self-assessment tax returns, Form P11D's and company secretarial client paperwork Corresponding with HMRC

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan

The majority of work and training will take place at our offices at Thorpe Park, Leeds 15.  For Audit roles, the majority of work will take place at client premises'.  Study towards the qualification will be 1 day per week at College based in Leeds centre.  (For L7 study, college will be block-release).

Study towards AAT (Accountancy) initially via 15-month Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship (with progression on to L4 or L7 professional qualification - ACA, ACCA or CTA).

Essential qualifications

A Level or equivalent in:

  • Any subjects (grade A - C)

GCSE in:

  • English & Maths (grade minimum 5)

Other requirements

Audit specific roles will require working out at clients' premises so driving licence and own car are desirable for these roles but specific departments will be discussed at time of interview.

After this apprenticeship

Following qualification at AAT/ATT, Apprentices can progress on to a professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CTA (Chartered Accountant, Certified Chartered Accountant or Chartered Tax Advisor).  We operate a structured progression route for development and promotion through the firm which is limitless for the right person.
