Summary
During the Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship you will be supporting teachers in the classroom, assisting them to enhance pupils’ learning and personal development. You will work towards your L3 Teaching Assistant qualification by assisting in a range of duties relevant to your studies, you will also be set aside time to complete your learning.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Attend to pupils’ needs, including social, emotional, health, and welfare matters.
- Under the direction of the class teacher support pupils’ learning using strategies appropriate to the needs of the pupils and provide modified resources as required.
- Monitor pupils’ responses to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
- Support pupils to access the wider curriculum, e.g. through the use of ICT or assistive technology.
- Work towards developing pupils’ independence in learning and self-care needs.
- Support pupils’ at lunch and break times as necessary and encourage safe, interactive play.

- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan
Your training will take place in school with a college assessor visit every 4 - 6 weeks.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 9-4 or A*-C)
- Maths (grade 9-4 or A*-C)

After this apprenticeship
The Teaching Assisant Apprentiship enables you to gain a qualification whilst also gaining practical skills working in an education environment with children. As well as leading to working as a qualfied Teaching Assisant in schools, apprentices may progress to higher level teaching assistant roles and specialist teaching assistant roles.
