Retail assistant required as a Counter Service Assistant for busy Pharmacy in South Norwood. Serving customers, making sales and various retailing duties as well as assisting the pharmacist. Great opportunity to progress!

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Counter service assistants will greet, serve and take payment from customers.

Your job role will include:

  • Serving customers and making sales
  • Operating the cash register
  • Handling money transactions
  • Stock control
  • Merchandising & display
  • Maintaining the professional appearance of shop
  • Ordering, receiving and managing stock
  • Undergo relevant training
  • Work as part of a team
  • Receive, record, and store medications coming into the pharmacy
  • Maintains stock of prescription medications and informs the pharmacist of inventory needs

  • Communicate with customers to meet their requirements and encourage customer loyalty and repeat business.
  • Serve customers in line with brand standards, legislation, business procedures and the values of the business.
  • Provide a retail service that balances the customers’ needs with additional linked products and services.
  • Use face to face or online sales techniques such as product and price comparisons to support or influence the customer in their purchasing decisions.
  • Promote seasonal or local offers through in-store or online promotions.
  • Identify situations that may damage business reputation in line with company policy and escalate as required.
  • Maintain good merchandising to meet the needs of the business whilst ensuring safety.
  • Maintain stock levels and storage conditions such as correct temperature, lighting, ventilation, packaging to meet customer demand and minimise stock loss.
  • Use technology and applications to support sales and service ensuring that maintenance issues are reported.
  • Support team and colleague development through buddying and/or coaching.
  • Comply with regulations and legislation relevant to their role and business.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities which focus on improving sustainability within the business.
  • Handle complaints within remit or escalate as appropriate.
  • Support sales across a range of promotional events throughout the calendar year.

Your training plan

  • On-the-job training will be delivered by the employer.
  • The Training Provider Davidson Training UK Limited will work alongside the employer in the delivery of the off-the-job training.
  • This will all lead to a Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification in Retailing
  • You will also complete Level 2 Functional Skills in English and mathematics (if you already do not hold the equivalent)
  • As you will be involved in the sale of over-the-counter medicine you may also undertake an accredited medicines counter assistant course and will work under the supervision of a pharmacist

Other requirements

Job involves long periods of activity. We have many elderly customers and they need to be treated with kindness and tolerance. As well as completing your retailer Standard Apprenticeship, you may also be able to complete the Medicines Counter Assistant online training course.
