Summary

We are looking to recruit an ambitious, smart and motivated individual to begin their career in Finance within the education sector. This role is a key position in the Academy, dealing with all aspects of finance & administration.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Word processing
  • Presentation materials
  • Spreadsheets and databases
  • Photocopying/scanning
  • Create and maintain appropriate filing systems both electronic and paper.
  • To distribute incoming and outgoing post and internal communication for and behalf of the Finance department.
  • Assist in monitoring shared Finance email inbox - dealing with general queries.
  • Support in collating end of month documentation.
  • Data input to include processing of accounting journals.
  • Raise debtor invoices, monitor income and update invoice tracker, chasing aged debtors where appropriate.
    • Process and monitor lunch money debt.
  • Assist in trip costings.
  • 1st Line support for ParentPay queries for trips and Academy shop.
  • Manage school shop orders and stock.
  • Support in collating spreadsheets and documents for Bursary, Learning Grant and Prefect Payments.
  • Admin support with events such as Academy production, parent's evenings, open events, achievement evenings.
  • Assist in setting up new suppliers and verifying bank details.
  • Filing and archiving.
  • Checking deliveries and ensuring the relevant paperwork is accurate.
  • Monitoring stationery stocks.
  • Use of inhouse school systems including Pupil information systems, Finance systems, and communication systems.
  • Office duties including; answering the telephone, greeting visitors, co-ordinating the visitor sign-in system, handling parental, pupil, staff and visitor queries.
  • Other reasonable tasks from time to time as directed by the Finance Manager or Principal.

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C or above or equivalent)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above or equivalent)
