Summary

Our new member of the team will undertake an apprenticeship with KEITS and assist in the husbandry and welfare of all our animals on site.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

TG Falconry Ltd is a small zoo with mainly birds of prey and a mammal collection. The mammals include meerkats and pygmy goats. We are open to the public all year round.

Duties will include:

  • Working alongside our trained falconers and bird handlers who will train you to be able to give your own flying demonstrations to the public
  • Customer service and dealing with public enquiries
  • All areas of animal welfare and husbandry for all our animals
  • Feeding and nutrition
  • Exercising and enrichment
  • Site maintenance

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment
  • The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship Standard
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on-site visits throughout the apprenticeship
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship

Other requirements

Animal roles often require applicants to be active all day, can be very mucky and working outside in all weathers. KEITS Training Services Ltd reserves the right to close the vacancy earlier than the listed closing date should the need arise. The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
