Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Duties will include:
- Helping pupils with their learning
- Running clubs, activities and interventions with small groups
- Supporting individual students to overcome challenges, such as with reading, writing or confidence
- Supporting students who have special educational needs and disabilities
- Preparing the classroom with resources and classroom management
- Safeguarding pupils

- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan
Apprentices will attend on-campus face-to-face training days every 6 weeks, college transport is available.
Apprentices will also be visited in the workplace by their assigned instructor-mentor who will complete observations, and professional discussions and guide the apprentice throughout their apprenticeship.
More training information
In addition to college training apprentices will complete training as part of their employment such as safeguarding, prevent, allergy awareness, dyslexia awareness and how to support pupils with additional needs.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4/C or above)
- Maths (grade 4/C or above)
