Summary

As an Assistant Accountant Apprentice at Sycamore, you will be contributing to the Finance Team gaining valuable experience, which when added alongside your College learning, will give you credible exposure to qualify as an Assistant Accountant.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Support Finance Manager with monthly processing of payroll and process improvement.
  • Ensuring Accounts inbox is reviewed regularly and incoming items requiring action are processed accordingly within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Ensure incoming purchase invoices are processed using Sage 200 in a timely manner.
  • Support Finance Manager with the creation of sales invoices from Project Team milestone approvals.
  • Liaise with Project Team to maintain and update a schedule of supplier payment terms.
  • Ensure the supplier information held on Sage is up to date and implement a quarterly review process in conjunction with the Purchasing Assistant to maintain an active supplier database.

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan

The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Assistant Accountant Level 3 standard. On completion, the apprentice will receive Level 3 AAT Diploma qualification. Further inhouse training will be supplied as required.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Grade 9 – 4 / A* - C)
  • Maths (grade Grade 9 – 4 / A* - C)

Other requirements

A full UK driving license is required due to the location of Sycamore. You MUST be prepared to commit to your work and training for the duration of the apprenticeship. In some cases, you may be required to have a telephone conversation with Yeovil College prior to your application being passed on. On completion of the Assistant Accounting Level 3 Apprenticeship, you will be able to work up to a Management Accountant.
