Summary

You will learn from our Site Managers, learning about site operations - directing and organising site activities to ensure that all planned works are delivered safely on time and to the programme set out. You will also learn how to monitor quality and performance to make sure standards of health and safety, productivity and quality are high.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Learning about risk and opportunity and its effect both before and during construction and how to maintain the project risk and opportunity management plan. Along with this learning how to approve change control and coordinate its response.
  • Learn how to allocate project resources, scheduling the availability of internal and external resources. Help to identify the best options and solutions for the projects.
  • Understand how to assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects where needed.
  • Develop the ability to lead and manage stakeholders and subcontractors to make sure everyone is meeting the required standards and the programme is progressing.
  • Learn about HSEQ and make sure the team always complies with all rules and systems and promotes this continuously.
  • Develop commercial and finance skills to take part in monthly cost reconciliation meetings and to be able to review the final account before submission to client.
  • Be trained to carry out quality and statutory checks in line with contract specifications and contract statement of requirements and monitor construction performance undertaking regular threats and issues reviews.

Course contents
  • Identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours.
  • Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects.
  • Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
  • Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.
  • Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan.
  • Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects.
  • Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget.

Your training plan

You will train both onsite with our experienced colleagues and online with our training provider.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above)
  • Any (grade 64 UCAS points)

You need good digital skills and can use Microsoft office. We would also like you to be able to show you have good written skills and can talk to others well. You will need to be organised and have a good attention to detail. You need to be self-driven and have a desire to learn how to manage and lead people. This is site based and outdoors.
