Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people
- To promote the inclusion of all pupils within the classroom
- To establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
- To develop an understanding of the learning needs of students and use this knowledge to support them to become independent learners in the classroom
- To support students with their learning in classes and small groups so that they achieve their full potential in school
- To support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
- Support children at lunchtimes including encouraging good table manners and healthy eating
- Organise and deliver lunchtime activities to encourage physical development and problem-solving
- To encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all pupils in activities in the classroom and throughout the lunchtime period
- To promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward the achievement of self-reliance in our pupils
- To act as a classroom and lunchtime support, setting, maintaining and upholding school standards of punctuality, behaviour, uniform and other relevant areas, applying all school policies consistently
- To ensure that support is directed appropriately to promote learning and progress across the curriculum monitoring and reporting to the class teacher or SLT; group discussion and positive group; Literacy programme; Numeracy programme and monitor pupils’ progress across all subjects
- Any duties of a similar nature as directed by the class teacher or senior leadership team

- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan
Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant consisting of:
- Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant
- Level 2 Functional Skills in English (if applicable)
- Level 2 Functional Skills in maths (if applicable)
You will be required to attend a half-day session with HBTC where you will work towards any functional skills (where needed) that you have to take. There will also be an end point assessment.
