Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
A fantastic and rare opportunity to join a dynamic, progressive, and professional logistics department at a world-renowned mass participation sports events company. London Marathon Events Ltd are looking to recruit the right candidate to embark on an apprenticeship that blends both on the job working across the company's portfolio of events with academic studies over the course of an initial two-year fixed term contract. The candidate will gain extensive experience of all logistical aspects of the overall operations of the business along with the attainment of an industry recognised qualification.
- Receipt of goods and vehicle marshalling
- Loading and unloading regular deliveries and event vehicles
- Reconciliation and put away of received goods
- Processing of goods and their transfer to an appropriate warehouse location
- Perform a variety of picking and packing procedures
- Preparation of goods for dispatch
- Waste management, recycling and housekeeping
- Undertake scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities
- Complete and maintain electronic inventories
- Ad-hoc driving of light goods vehicles to complete deliveries of event equipment
- Adherence to health & safety legislation
- Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility
To become an apprentice, you must:
- Not already be in full-time education
- You can start an apprenticeship whether you’re starting your career, want a change
- You can have a previous qualification like a degree and still start an apprenticeship
As an apprentice you’ll:
- Have regular one to one sessions with a dedicated trainer either remotely or through visits to your workplace.
- Learn and train for a specific job.
- Get paid and receive holiday leave.
- Get hands-on experience in a real job.
- Study for at least 20% of your working hours.
- Complete assessments during and at the end of your apprenticeship

Other requirements
The role would be predominantly based at London Marathon Event’s warehouse and storage facility in South-East London but will also incorporate working at a variety of locations dictated by event schedule. Unsociable hours (evenings and weekends) are a given at certain times of the year and as part of the role, you will often be required to work to specific and unyielding deadlines to ensure success in event delivery. Please note you could be asked to interview earlier than date given, as the date is a general guide, once we have found the right applicant we will close the position. During your Apprenticeship you will be made to feel welcome, part of the team and will be given the support you need to be successful and to pass your apprenticeship programme. We are a small, friendly and supportive team. Level 2 Supply Chain Warehousing Operative Apprenticeship Standard Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the Apprentice’s chosen career route, each standard has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English. Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Inspiro Learning regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role. Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment. After this apprenticeship
Towards the end of the apprenticeship, a comprehensive mutual review of the period will be completed. This will include discussing internal progression opportunities at London Marathon Events as well as providing interview skills training, CV writing support and further education options.
