Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Be part of an exciting journey of 5* event riders - learn LOTS along the way! Promoting a friendly vibe, and working as part of a small team. Previous employees have gone from limited experience to grooming at 4* & 5* events within a matter of months.

Looking to start in Jan 2025 for the successful candidate!

As the apprentice, your day will include;

  • All daily general yard duties which should be completed to a high standard with a fast-moving can-do attitude
  • Outings to shows/training & learning on the job
  • Must be competent & confident to help with hacking/fitness work & lunging, experience working on a yard is required
  • Competition preparation
  • Potential to groom at international shows which will be taught

The apprenticeship is based on site full time and no need for sitting in the classroom as plenty of practical opportunities.

You must be a UK resident in order to apply for this role.

Equine Groom Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • All training will be provided on site during your paid working hours
  • Your day to day mentoring will be with your employer, and a combination of online and in person monthly sessions will be held with your Haddon Training Trainer Coach
  • If you have not achieved your maths and/or English GCSE's to grade 4 or above, Haddon Training will support you in achieving this with Functional Skills

Other requirements

Livery is possible at £50 per week on a DIY basis. There is no accommodation available on site so you must reliably be able to make your own way to and from the yard each day. There is a 1 hour lunch break per day. Work hours may vary depending on competition days. Any applicant should expect to travel around the country and potentially stay away for periods of time but no more than 6 days. This would be rare and not at the beginning of employment but an opportunity if applicant is showing promise.

This 5* Eventing yard is offering an apprenticeship job vacancy with a select team of event horses up to 5*/competing at Badminton, as well as broodmares/foals. This Equestrian Centre is set on the unique grounds of the 13th and 16th-century priory. This is an idyllic location with great equine activities available for most of the year.

After this apprenticeship

  • For the right applicant, there could be the opportunity to learn yard management, moving into a head groom position depending on the applicant. There will be opportunities to learn about coaching and stud work/breaking and backing
