Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

This apprenticeship position is ideal for those looking to obtain a role in animal care. Their unique business and varied number of services creates a very special opportunity to gain a lot of experience in different environments.

General day to day duties such as:

  • Exercising and providing enrichment to the dogs in our care.
  • Keeping the facilities clean and tidy to a high standard.
  • Aiding in the training and development of new and existing dogs in our care.
  • Basic maintenance & gardening of the premises.
  • Clear and concise incident reporting to stay on top of any abnormal or unwanted behaviours from our guests.
  • To understand and follow our health and safety policy, handbook and all guidance given by the owner and his team.
  • To aid in the smooth running of our grooming parlour, training (solo & group classes) & our pet food shop.
  • To work consistently and in all weathers all year round in a mainly outdoor environment.

You will be working towards the Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant appretniceship with the employer and supported by Haddon Training.

Also, if required, Haddon Training will support you in gaining passes in maths and/or English with Functional Skills.

Other requirements

Stablecroft are looking for applicants with a positive attitude & willingness to work hard. This is a tough line of work, mostly outdoors and in all weathers. You must have an ability to communicate with others and work as a team, and a love for animals (but that goes without saying). This is an ideal position for someone looking to start their career with animals.

About this company

We are a family run business with animal welfare and enrichment at the core of all the services we provide. Initially offering just day care, we’ve grown organically over the years to be able to provide boarding, training, grooming & we’ve now opened a raw food shop.

After this apprenticeship

All 5 of their current employees were once apprentices, with some having been with them for 5+ years. 
Stablecroft believe the apprentice route is an excellent foot in the door of this industry, and they would like to offer successful and deserving apprentices with further employment. However, this is not guaranteed. 
For the right candidate, there could be the opportunity to progress to the Level 3 Animal Management apprenticeship.
