Summary

The primary role of the Teaching Assistant Apprentice is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives, and stay on task in order to make progress. Promoting self-belief, social inclusion, and high self-esteem play.

Work

  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

    Teaching Assistant Level 3 (A level) Apprenticeship Standard:

    • This qualification is delivered remotely with the support of a qualified teacher assigned as a mentor at our school, who will carry out observations on the learners’ practical work
    • There will be monthly cohort sessions hosted on Microsoft Teams with the training provider for approximately 2-hours per session
    • The learner will be given time away from their daily duties to attend the sessions
    • These sessions can be recorded as off-the-job training
    • Following this, learners will engage in virtual one-on-one meetings with their tutors every 4-6 weeks to discuss their learning, assess progress, and establish SMART targets for the upcoming learning period
    • In addition, learners will be assigned 3 hours per week for study time

Other requirements: ● Requires a commitment to safeguard pupil’s wellbeing & equality and maintain confidentiality at all times. ● We are looking for someone who is resilient, positive, forward thinking and enthusiastic about making a difference. ● Demonstrate full commitment to completing the course, including the enrolment process. ● Provide evidence of qualifications or be willing to complete Functional Skills. ● Achieve the required level of maths and english on the initial assessments (completed at enrolment). ● Reliability, flexibility and willingness to work with all primary school ages from Nursery through to year 6 is essential. ● Appointment subject to satisfactory pre-employment safeguarding and health checks, including ID, DBS and an internet search. ● This role can be physically demanding at times and involves time spent outside looking after children and assisting on school trips and activities.
