Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

During the Planning Management Training programme, you will be a part of both pre construction and construction project teams developing construction plans, methodologies and programmes. 

You will actively support the planning process of tenders, pre-construction and project delivery for a wide range of construction projects, including leisure centres, schools, high-rise developments, prisons, health centres and more. You will assist the planning team by working closely with specialists to develop logistics and crane strategies, develop construction timescales, programmes and sequences. The planning team in any construction project work with and join the commercial, design and construction functions.

Course contents
  • Identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours.
  • Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects.
  • Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
  • Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.
  • Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan.
  • Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects.
  • Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget.
  • Your training plan

    • HNC Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor through Leeds College on block release
    • If you already hold a construction-related degree you will progress onto chartership

    Requirements

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths and English (grade 5-9)
    • 2 A-Levels or equivalent (grade DD or above)
