Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Train familiarisation – Spending time with the customer’s maintenance team doing routine maintenance. This is the best way to find your way around the train
  • Working with and being mentored by the technical support engineers. Looking at on and off train diagnostics, fault rectification, experiencing how to write a technical report. In down time the technical support engineers will spend time on trains with apprentices to teach them how the various systems work
  • Health and safety – Creating and reviewing risk assessments
  • Depot safety tours
  • Projects – This could be creating a reliability improvement, something to make maintenance easier or specifying a new piece of equipment
  • Spending time at other Siemens sites – Not every module of an apprenticeship can be covered at Slade Green depot. From time to time, it may be necessary to work at other Siemens sites to gather the required evidence to complete a module
