Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
The role entails working as part of a close team within the Quality Department, with the final goal of becoming a skilled Engineering Support Engineer, reporting directly to the Technical Manager.
Working predominantly in the Semi-Conductor and analytical sciences sector, the workload is often fast changing and varied to meet the high demands of our customers. As part of the ASG Group of companies, a larger aerospace outfit, there will be the opportunity to work on any projects that they may require assistance on also.
Responsibilities will include:
- Reading / Understanding Engineering drawings
- Manual inspection using hand tools such as verniers and micrometers
- Liaising with customers / suppliers
- Pre-Production Amendment of CAD Files to suit Drawings
- Programming of CNC Machines
- Analysis of CNC Machine down time to identify areas for improvement
- Overseeing automation equipment to maximise output
- ERP Superuser- i.e. able to interrogate system and support staff with issues
- Purchasing responsibilities (Tooling and some consumables, potentially support material purchasing)
- Running CNC Machines when required
Full on the job training will be given, and there will also be opportunities for personal improvement through external training providers on top of your apprenticeship learning.

Your training plan
In-house training plus the candidate will follow a Level 3 Apprenticeship programme and study towards a Level 3 Engineering & Manufacturing support technician. This training will be structured and delivered by Cheshire College - South & West. If the candidate does not hold GCSE grades A-C (9-4) or equivalent, they will be required to complete a Level 2 Functional Skill in the relevant subject.
