Summary

Beeline Coaches are looking for a new Commercial Vehicle Technician Apprentice. You will be studying toward your Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician (Heavy) - Level 3 apprenticeship. Please note, this role is only open to applicants who can drive & have access to a vehicle.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Joining a family business means that you will focus your time on a specific fleet of vehicles. You will be able to work on various vehicles makes; Volvo, Scania, MAN, Cummins and Mercedes.

Your apprenticeship training will be split between a combination of workplace and academy learning on block release. Every six weeks you will attend Paragon Skills Automotive Academy (five weeks at work – 1 week at academy) where you will work towards completing your apprenticeship modules and demonstrate your practical abilities and competencies in our multi-functioning workshops. You must be able to provide your own transport to and from the academy when required. 

As a Heavy Vehicle Apprentice, your day-to-day duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting other technicians with vehicle maintenance, repairs and servicing
  • Assisting with keeping the workshop clean and tidy
  • Shadowing workplace mentor for a variety of tasks
  • Develop and build hand skills
  • Learning to maintain and repair customers vehicles
  • Speaking with customers to ensure they are aware of work being carried out on their vehicle
  • Take bookings, payments and other basic office administration, as required

Course contents
  • Carry out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV
  • The ability to keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes.
  • Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately.
  • The ability to service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and vehicle standards agency (DVSA) and manufacturers’ standards.
  • Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HV’s.
  • Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester’s manual.
  • Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes.
  • Maintain records to company and operators’ licence obligations and regulation.
  • To be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums both internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support, HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.

    Functional skills in maths and English are necessary when required.

    Other requirements

    Working hours Please note that anyone under the age of 18 can only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Any role which exceeds these hours should be amended accordingly, to fall in line with the legislation.
