Summary

An opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Housekeeper to join our professional, caring, friendly team on Critical Care. Previous experience as a housekeeper in a hospital setting is essential and the working pattern will be Monday to Friday. You will complete customer service practitioner level 2 apprenticeship during your contracted hours.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • The role of Housekeeper is vital for the smooth running of the department, and you will be responsible for supporting the nursing team with non-clinical tasks:-
  • ordering patient's food
  • help maintain a safe, clean, comfortable environment for patients and staff.
  • Be part of a  team for monitoring, ordering, and managing the storeroom supplies to ensure that the department is kept well stocked.
  • Be responsible for escalating appropriate environmental and equipment issues to the relevant departments.

Course contents
  • Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
  • Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

    • Customer Service Practitioner level 2 qualification
    • Maths & English Functional Skills level 1 if required (and work towards level 2)
    • Statutory and manadatory training: i.e. Health & Safety, Fire, Moving & Handling, Food Hygiene

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE in:

    • Maths & English (grade 4 or equivalent)

    Other requirements

    This role will involve using cleaning equipment and could involve moving items such as beds, cupboards and pushing meal trolley's across the site (from catering to ward areas). The role is cross site and you will be required to work to our new hospital, MMUH.
