Summary

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Artisan, in metal craft.
We are looking for a team member who would enjoy working with like-minded craftsmen to produce products part, and whole in varying types of metals.
We would look to encourage the new member in all the processes of our products, with an introduction in machine work, setting out and preparatory tasking, which is crucial in a rounded approach to becoming a welder fabricator.
We would like to help along with the college, to bring into the workplace a fully skilled and versatile craftsman, capable of working anywhere with a confident skill set.

Your training plan
Produce good quality welds using two welding process/material type combinations (TIG, MMA, MIG/MAG, FCAW) and (Carbon and Low Alloy steel, High Alloy Ferritic/Martensitic Steel, Austenitic Stainless Steel, Nickel and Nickel Alloys, Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys) in two welding positions (Downhand, Horizontal, Vertical, Overhead).
- General Welders will have the knowledge to: General Welders will display the following behaviours Attain a qualification in accordance with one of the following standards: ISO 9606 / ASME IX / BS4872 / AWS D1.1, determined by the employer. N.B. These qualifications are regarded as licences to practice in welding
- Achieve a quality of work to meet international standards for dimensional and surface inspection (Visual, Magnetic Particle Inspection and Dye Penetrant Inspection)
- Position, prepare and check the welding equipment
- Receive, handle and maintain consumables
- Prepare, check and protect materials and work area ready for welding
- Complete and check the finished weld ready for inspection and report into the production control system
- Ensure that health and safety requirements are fully accounted for in all the above

- Will attend South Devon College one day per week to facilitate your Off-The-Job training required for your apprenticeship

GCSE in:

- Maths (grade 4)

About this company
Reliant Metal are based in Devon. We design, manufacture and install a wide range of products from small intricate parts to large steel structures. All aspects of metal work under taken and produced in-house whether it be steel, aluminium or stainless steel. We have a vast amount of machinery to provide the ‘complete package’ from punching and guillotine to press brake and various welding processes. We take on projects from concept to installation, be it from a sketch or architects drawings, commercial or residential.
