Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
This is a fantastic opportunity for anybody wanting to learn an old school craft mixed with modern innovation. As a Level 3 sign technician, some day to day responsibilities will include:
- Handling various materials including acrylics, metals and aluminium composite materials,
- Wiring and soldering of electrical components
- Within our assembly department you will be required to be competent in reading & understanding technical drawings, plans & assembly instructions.
- Positioning, aligning and assembling sign components and parts
- You will gain experience using adhesives, bonding agents and mechanical fixings
- Learning how to use CNC machinery, including a Axyz 6014 4m x 2m flatbed router and using Artcam sortware cutting a wide range of materials from Aluminium to MDF
- Creating signs using a variety of materials
- Using a variety of tools to cut, shape, and assemble signs

Your training plan
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the qualification obtained will be a Level 3 Signage Apprenticeship Standard. The apprentice will be given sufficient time to undertake their "off-the-job" requirement of the apprenticeship during their working hours. Throughout your time as an apprentice, you will be supported by both your employer and BPIF Training to achieve the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the apprenticeship through a structured training plan. You will be assigned a training coordinator who will work with you throughout your apprenticeship to ensure that you have the best training and support available. Most training and studying will be a combination of regular site-based visits at the employer's premises and remote delivery. Candidates without the required level of maths and English will be required to complete Functional Skills alongside the apprenticeship.
