Summary

We are looking to recruit a Level 2 or Level 3 Equine Groom apprentice to work on our livery yard. This is an ideal role for someone wanting to start and or progress their career in the equine industry. General duties to include; mucking out, turning out/bringing in, tack cleaning, as well as other tasks.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

We are a purpose built livery yard based on the outskirts of Odiham, Hook in North Hampshire.

We are a 40 horse yard and offer full livery or part livery, with optional DIY at weekends.

We employ professional, qualified staff that are here to care of our customers horses, offer help and advice when needed and to make them feel welcome.

General duties to include;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Paddock maintenance
  • Schooling
  • Riding (dependent on ability)
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.)
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist
  • Training towards BHS stages

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan

You will be working towards gaining your Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship.

You will also work towards achieving your Functional Skills maths and/ or English at level 1 or 2 if required.

All training will take place at the employers premises with the employer and Haddon Training.

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Other requirements

This role will require working outdoors in all weather conditions so any applicant must be prepared to do that. There is accommodation available and possible livery for own horse with discounted lessons available for the successful candidate.

After this apprenticeship

There is a possibility of progression on to the Level 3 Senior Equine Groom apprenticeship on completion of the level 2 for the right candidate.
