Summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within a national company - Secureshield for a dedicated and motivated individual to join their team as a Fire and Security Apprentice. You will have the opportunity to gain experience and develop skills in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems, security systems, and related equipment.

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

Through the appropriate training and support, an Apprentice Fire and Security Engineer will learn and be expected to:

  • Assist in the installation of fire alarm systems, security cameras, access control systems, TECS (Technical Enabled Care Systems) and other related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fire and security systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • Assist in conducting regular inspections and testing of fire alarm and security systems according to industry standards.
  • Gain knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards related to fire and security systems.

• Collaborate with experienced technicians to learn best practices and techniques in the field.

• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including service reports and installation records.

• Follow H&S protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.

• Attend training provider facilities as agreed.

• Ensure all training is completed on time and submitted for assessment.

• Complete all training as assigned by the business in a timely manner.

Fire emergency and security systems technician (level 3)

Course contents
  • Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
  • Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
  • Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
  • Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
  • Carries out risk assessments.
  • Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
  • Plan and install systems cabling.
  • Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.
  • Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components.

More training information

Training will take place at Access Training on Team Valley. Day release sessions will be every 2 weeks initially and will be weekly towards the end of your apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Minimum grade 4)
  • Maths (grade Minimum grade 4)

Please ensure that you are able to travel to the employer and also to Team Valley in Gateshead for day release sessions. Applicants will ideally: Have full clean driving licence and their own means of transport • Live within a close / reasonable commuting distance of postcode NE12 9UP • Genuine desire to work in the Fire & Security industry • May have completed an Electrical Award Level 1 course already
