Summary

Jane Gilby is an international Dressage rider who has previously competed for Australia and New Zealand , she now runs a small private professional yard of 11 horses, which boasts excellent facilities including indoor and outdoor arenas. They are now looking for a an apprentice groom to join their small team.

Wage

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

All general yard duties to include :

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning /tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Attending competitions with either owner or senior groom and training when possible
  • Communicate with liveries
  • Hacking
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging and long reining)
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist/physio

This position will be a non-riding Equine Groom Apprenticeship, unless you bring your own horses to ride.

Your training plan

All training will be provided on-site during your paid working hours. Your day-to-day mentoring will be with your employer, and a combination of online and in-person monthly sessions will be held with your Haddon Training Trainer Coach.

  • Maths (grade 4)

Other requirements

This location is very rural , so not accessible by public transport, there is accommodation available for over 18's and livery for your own horse is possible. They are located 10 mins from Hartbury College and 15 mins from Gloucester. Please make sure if applying locally you can get yourself to and from the location daily .

Progression to the Level 3 Senior Equine Groom apprenticeship and/ or possibility of a full-time position upon completion of the apprenticeship.
