Summary
Ergro are looking for an apprentice to join our Small Works Team carrying out mechancial installation and servicing works. Ergro predominantly work in and around the London area on commercial buildings. The successful apprentice will be working alongside the team, mainly consisting of qualified gas engineers. Day release college will be required

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
Initially the apprentice will be shadowing a qualified engineer to learn various tasks. As the apprentice grows in confidence and ability they will be carrying out their own simple tasks under the supervision of their mentor. The apprentice will learn all aspects of commercial plant rooms, heating and mechanical systems, eventually becoming a qualified Mechanical/Gas Engineer. The apprentice will learn various operational systems, including the completion of engineering forms, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, timesheets and be competent to complete paperwork for each job.

- Produce risk assessment.
- Select and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify and report hazards and risks in the workplace. Take action to mitigate hazards and risk.
- Move, lift and handle materials safely.
- Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations and standards.
- Apply waste management techniques.
- Interpret information from, for example, drawings, specifications, and system schematics.
- Apply design techniques.
- Plan work activities and order.
- Apply resource management techniques and principles when planning work.
- Prepare area of work for setting out and work activities for self and others; carry out prework checks.
- Anticipate and minimise delays to planned work.
- Select materials, components, fittings and bracketry required to complete work tasks.
- Secure and store equipment and tools.
- Carry out pre commissioning activities.
- Fabricate pipework systems including pipe bending.
- Install systems for example cold water, hot water, return, heating, chilled.
- Use pipe-jointing techniques.
- Carry out the testing of a system following installation.

Your training plan
Training will be carried out at Choice Training in Essex and will be on a day release basis. Time will be provided for the completion of coursework and portfolios.
More training information
Regular monitoring and reports are sent to Ergro from the training provider to ensure that all aspects of the course are completed and evidenced in portfolios.

Other requirements
The role of an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer requires the applicant to be physically fit. They will also be required to make their own way into London. The works vary from working outside to working in plant rooms within various buildings.
