Summary
We are looking for a detail-driven and motivated Data Technician Apprentice to support our fast-paced eCommerce operations. This role is ideal for someone with a keen interest in data, online retail, and digital tools such as Shopify, Mailchimp, QuickBooks and Excel. You will gain hands-on experience working with our online store and product data.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Research and evaluate product suppliers while monitoring competitor pricing to support strategic purchasing decisions and ensure our Shopify store remains competitive
- Communicate with suppliers and customers to gather product data, documentation, and ensure smooth integration of new products into our eCommerce system
- Maintain and update product information on Shopify, including product listings, pricing, tags, collections, and metadata, to ensure consistency and SEO optimisation
- Assist in managing customer data and email marketing lists through Mailchimp, ensuring segmentation, GDPR compliance, and up-to-date subscriber information
- Create and maintain spreadsheets and online documents to support stock management, pricing strategies, and sales performance tracking
- Categorise and tag products to improve site navigation, filtering, and search engine optimisation (SEO), enhancing the user experience
- Oversee inventory management, ensuring stock levels are tracked accurately, stockouts are minimised, and inventory data is updated in real-time on Shopify
- Handle regular data entry tasks related to inventory updates, supplier pricing changes, and customer orders to keep the eCommerce platform running smoothly

- Collect, format and save datasets.
- Summarise and explain gathered data.
- Blend data sets from multiple sources and present in format appropriate to the task.
- Manipulate and link different data sets as required.
- Use tools and techniques to identify trends and patterns in data.
- Apply basic statistical methods and algorithms to identify trends and patterns in data.
- Apply cross checking techniques for identifying faults and data results for data project requirements.
- Audit data results.
- Demonstrate the different ways of communicating meaning from data in line with audience requirements.
- Produce clear and consistent technical documentation using standard organisational templates.
- Store, manage and distribute in compliance with data security standards and legislation.
- Explain data and results to different audiences in a way that aids understanding.
- Review own development needs.
- Keep up to date with developments in technologies, trends and innovation using a range of sources.
- Clean data i.e. remove duplicates, typos, duplicate entries, out of date data, parse data (e.g. format telephone numbers according to a national standard) and test and assess confidence in the data and its integrity.
- Operate as part of a multi-functional team.
- Prioritise within the context of a project.
