Summary

Ramboll invite you to apply for a Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship in our Infrastructure team, assisting the delivery of Infrastructure design across a wide range of projects. You will be provided with full support to achieve a Level 6 qualification (BEng in Civil Engineering) which aims to create a solid foundation for a successful career.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

As our new Degree Apprentice you will be part of a fast growing, dynamic team in our Chester office.

You will be part of an exciting team of experts, who respect each other and work towards a common goal. You will be provided with on-the-job training and mentoring from our team of experienced, industry-leading professionals. 

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Working on Small, Medium and Large projects, producing 3d models, visualisations, drawings and schedules that describe how to build our award-winning designs under the leadership of the discipline manager
  • You will learn to use an extensive suite of cutting-edge CAD applications and be challenged to improve of use of them
  • You will be working alongside the rest of the Transport team, and teams of all disciplines nationally and internationally across the Ramboll Group to deliver our projects
  • Promote the Ramboll brand, its core values and our strategy as The Partner for Sustainable Change
  • Apply and promote policies relating to health and safety, quality and the Environment

Course contents
  • Apply engineering principles to solve engineering problems: scientific, theoretical and technical principles.
  • Apply civil engineering techniques, procedures and methods, and review and evaluate the results, including measuring and testing, designing, installing, commissioning, constructing, maintaining or operating civil engineering components and systems; consider how continuous improvement can contribute to improved performance.
  • Employ mathematical, statistical and data interpretation tools, using analytical and computational methods, and apply an integrated or systems-based approach.
  • Identify, interpret and compare information to select materials, components or parts used in civil engineering.
  • Research, collect, select and evaluate technical literature and other sources of data and information to address, analyse and evaluate civil engineering problems.
  • Produce civil engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards, policies, codes of practice, regulations, and legislation.
  • Select and apply computational and analytical techniques to model civil engineering problems, recognising the limitations of the techniques employed.
  • Contribute to the design, development and implementation of civil engineering solutions, and evaluate their effectiveness in the context of the whole project life cycle.
  • Manage and comply with statutory health, safety and welfare policies, procedures and regulation, and contribute to improvements in health, safety and welfare, within their own area of responsibility.
  • Complete risk assessments to identify, evaluate, manage and mitigate risks.
  • Apply principles of sustainable development and evaluate their effectiveness on the whole project lifecycle of civil engineering solutions.
  • Manage engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
  • Apply project management techniques, identifying, measuring, recording and reporting progress against civil engineering project performance criteria.
  • Manage quality processes and contribute to quality improvements.
  • Plans and manages resources, equipment and technology, to meet project requirements, specifications, costs and budgets and timescales, with an appreciation of statutory and commercial arrangements.

Your training plan

The duration of the academic course is 5 years and will likely be provided by Liverpool John Moores University.

You would typically work for 4 days a week in the Chester office within your job delivery role and study would be 1 day a week (during the academic terms) at the University via a combination of lectures, laboratory work, tutorials, workshops, practical sessions, and online activities combined with your own research using the library and the web. The cost of the Apprenticeship is paid by Ramboll through the Apprenticeship Levy.

The Apprenticeship would lead to the following qualifications:

  • Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship
  • BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering
  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers following successfully passing the relevant Professional organisation entry requirements

A Level in:

  • Minimum number of A Levels required: 2 Subjects (grade Average grade- BBC)
