Summary

The apprentice will undertake training tailored to their level of experience and skill, with the opportunity to complete a Level 2, 3, or Level 4 Sports Coach course. The apprentice will gain a deeper understanding of coaching principles, sports development, and how to effectively deliver sessions for different age groups.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

The apprentice will play an integral role in supporting the delivery of sports coaching across a variety of settings.

They will assist in planning and delivering engaging sports sessions to children, both individually and in groups, ensuring a fun and educational experience
The apprentice will work primarily within primary school environments, leading and supporting activities in breakfast and lunch clubs, as well as after-school clubs
They will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a broad range of sporting activities, including football, basketball, athletics, and more, while also helping to foster teamwork, physical development, and a positive attitude towards sport among young participants

Successful application of tactics and strategies to empower people from inactive and hard to reach populations to take up an active lifestyle
Successful application of a range of approaches that bring about changes in attitudes and behaviours within target communities
Supporting people within target communities to become involved in the preparation, planning and delivery of sport and active lifestyles
Using local insight and customer-orientated marketing skills to attract high priority groups into existing leisure, parks and sport infrastructure
Negotiation, lobbying and brokerage skills with local partners across public health, community development and anti social behaviour
Demonstrate clear and effective communication techniques in order to give/receive information accurately and in a timely and positive manner
Problem solving and effective decision making with regards the design and implementation of sport and physical activity programmes
Writing successful funding bids to enable new, different or more opportunities to take place for sport and physical activity
Managing disruptive behaviour of clients and customers before, during and after activities
Managing and adapting personal behaviours to ensure provision is inclusive, customer-focused and accessible
Building partnerships and developing meaningful relationships with local partners and stakeholders in sport and physical activity

After this apprenticeship

At the end of the apprenticeship, career progression will depend on the apprentice's starting level and achievements during the program. For those starting at Level 2 or Level 3, there will be the opportunity to progress to the next level of qualification, further enhancing their coaching skills and expertise. For apprentices who successfully complete a Level 4 qualification, there is the potential for full-time employment with Edstart Sports Coaching. Once employed, we will continue to support their professional development, including the opportunity to pursue a Level 5 Primary PE Specialist qualification. This pathway offers long-term career growth, with the potential to take on leadership roles in sports coaching and education.
