Summary

We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant Apprentice to provide general support to the teacher as part of the Learning Support Assistant team, including supporting pupils in lessons, playtime and lunchtimes, during after school club and preparing teaching resources and displays.

£12,759.50 a year

The above salary if year round, this role is TERM TIME ONLY, working 39 weeks per year with an actual salary of 10,561.28.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

  • Motivating pupils to achieve beyond their potential
  • Supporting and encouraging pupils in their schoolwork
  • Encouraging children to communicate
  • Helping children to understand instructions
  • Ensuring pupils feel comfortable and confident in their own abilities
  • Listening to children read, reading to them and telling them stories
  • Looking after vulnerable children who require a dedicated person to manage their physical needs, including their hygiene
  • Helping children who need extra support to complete tasks
  • Supporting children during social activities, outings, and sports events
  • Helping children prepare for activities, such as Physical Education (PE), Forest School
  • Helping children during therapy sessions
  • Supervising group activities
  • Assisting teachers to plan learning activities, prepare learning materials, complete records, and carry out administrative tasks
  • Supporting teachers in managing class behaviour
  • Following a child’s care plan
  • Supervising pupils in the playground
  • Clearing away materials and equipment after lessons
  • Taking part in training

  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

Qualification:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Teaching Assistant https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/teaching-assistant-v1-1
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths (if required)

Delivery Method:

  • Every other week (Friday PM)
  • Online portfolio to update with learning and development completed onsite
  • Diarised visits from dedicated Trainer/Assessor
  • Attendance to Loughborough College for Functional Skills (if required)

  • An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation
  • At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • Maths and English (grade (Grade C / 4 or equivalent))
