Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

  • This support work will be a blend of supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and supporting small groups of children, both in and out of the classroom or on the playground at break and lunch time, alongside supporting members of the teaching staff.
  • Our new apprentice Teaching Assistants will be based in a year group but will also be timetabled to work across different classes and different year groups in the school.
  • Working 1:1 or with small groups of pupils.
  • Supporting pupils with additional learning needs.
  • Supporting a pupil with an Educational Health Care Plan
  • Supporting the class teacher with whole class teaching and the preparation of resources.
  • Playground duties both at morning break and at lunch time.
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our pupils.
  • Being committed to becoming involved with school life as a whole.
  • Maintaining a welcoming classroom environment, encouraging pupils to work independently.
  • Keep accurate records of pupil progress and report back to the class teacher and/ or SENDCo.
  • Preparing resources.
  • Listening to the children read.
  • Attending staff meetings and training as appropriate.
  • Ensuring all pupils are safe and safeguarding procedures are followed.

Your training plan

  • You will work towards the Teaching Assistant Level 3 Standard qualification, attending monthly training sessions with your tutor/assessor, where you will meet other apprentices from local schools providing excellent peer to peer learning via on-line. 
  • Functional skills if required.

There are assignments and live evidence gained within the workplace where you will embed your learning and gain further training hands on training from your mentor and teacher within school.  You will have access to your programme outside of your sessions via our e-portfolio system Laser Learning.

About this company

Elangeni is a two-form entry junior school in Chesham Bois, Amersham. After this apprenticeship
