Summary

Responsive Engineering is a contract manufacturer based in the North East of England. We specialise in large, complex fabrications for the Defence, Energy, and Rail sectors. We are recruiting completed A-Level, T-Level or Higher Level Apprentices to join our Manufacturing Engineering Degree Apprenticeship.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

  • Learn a range of skills, including the knowledge to lead and control fabrication processes, CNC machining, CNC profiling and finishing systems
  • Work across different departments in the engineering team
  • Build positive relationships with internal and external customers
  • work with the project teams to support the manufacture of complex assemblies

Course contents
  • Foundation Stage: Complying with statutory regulations and stringent organisational safety requirements
  • Foundation Stage: Producing components using hand fitting, fabrication and joining techniques
  • Foundation Stage: Producing Computer Aided Design (CAD) models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • Foundation Stage: Preparing and using lathes, milling and other general or specialist machines and high tech equipment
  • Foundation Stage: Preparing and proving Computer Numeric Control programmes
  • Foundation Stage: Using computer software packages to assist with and evaluate engineering activities
  • Foundation Stage: Producing and managing engineering project plans
  • Foundation Stage: Producing assemblies using a wide range of materials and techniques
  • Development Team: Project management and scheduling engineering activities
  • Development Team: Securing appropriate resources and managing budgets and resources
  • Development Team: Implementing, monitoring and evaluating engineering processes

  • Level 6 Manufacturing Engineer Apprenticeship Standard
  • Training will be one day per week - day release
  • Regular in-house training and development opportunities
  • BSc (Hons) or BEng (Hons) in Engineering

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 4-9)
  • Mathematics (grade 4-9)
  • Science (grade 4-9)

BTEC or equivalent in:

  • Engineering (grade Distinction, Merit, Pass)

Desirable qualifications

A Level or equivalent in:

  • Mathematics (grade A-C)
  • Science (grade A - C)

Other requirements

Working environment is within a 33,000m3 dedicated production facility located on the banks of the River Tyne. Role will be in a mixture of production and office areas, rotating through teams to gain as much knowledge as possible. Engineering team mentor will be assigned to support you with the learning journey. Exciting role within a pivotal team.
