This apprentice is based at Ruislip depot. With short stretch placements in other London locations.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Year 1:
- The first year is settling into London Underground. You will spend the first 3 months at our partner college in Enfield working on the fundamental engineering principles. You will then receive all the safety training and licencing to safely work on. After you have had all the safety training you start to be shadow the training maintainers at Ruislip Transplant depot rotating around the teams
- This is the time you will start to work on gathering knowledge for your qualifications. Also returning to college for short stints to achieve key engineering principal units. The qualifications are made up of knowledge questions and evidence of the work you have done
Year 2:
- Your second year will be where you get hands on in the business learning from experienced train maintainers from focusing mainly at Ruislip on the engineering vehicles. However there will be opportunity for short placements on passage train depots across the network and the Railway Engineering Workshop. You will be expected to follow teams building up your confidence and practical knowledge
- As you continue on college block lease for knowledge and on the job, competency building this is a critical time to evidence and submit a large portion of your qualifications
Year 3:
- With the fundamentals of engineering and the hands-on practical experience your final year is where you continue rotating around placements while complete your qualifications. At the end you will present your best work to an external engineering institute who will give the final sign off that you are a competent

Other requirements
You will be working towards a Level 3 qualification in Railway Engineering Technician (Rolling stock) You will be required to attend Conel college on block release ranging from 5 weeks to 3 months. Due to the health and safety requirements of this role we are unable to employ apprentices under 18 on this scheme
