Summary

We are looking for 6 engineering fitter apprentices for our Eaton Titchfield site. Apprentices will be placed in either the Assembly & Test or Aftermarket areas. Apprentices will gain hands on engineering experience within the exciting Aerospace sector, alongside a fully funded Level 3 qualification.

Wage
£14,526.20 a year

Subject to review and performance, salary scale reviews are held in March each year. Additionally, subject to completion of academic requirements, an increase per academic year is also applied in September.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Apprentices will be placed in either our Assembly & Test or Aftermarket teams. There will be the opportunity to rotate across all areas for greater exposurer. 

During the day-to-day you can expect the following:

  • Foundational knowledge and application of Health and Safety priniciples
  • Foundational knowledge and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Hands on experience assembling fuel pump components in line with Standard Operating Procedures
  • Hands on experience repairing fuel pump components
  • Engagement with the full product lifecycle across site

Course contents
  • Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
  • Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
  • Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
  • Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
  • Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
  • Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
  • Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
  • Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
  • Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
  • Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
  • Reporting work outcomes or issues.
  • Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.
  • Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; re-cycling, re-using where appropriate.
  • Operating within limits of responsibility.
  • Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks and hazards and identifying control measures where applicable.

Your training plan

  • The standard hours of work are 37 hours per week - Monday to Thursday - 7.30am - 4.15pm. Friday, 7.30am - 11.30am. 
  • Your formal training will be provided through CEMAST, Fareham College one day per week (day TBC). The remainder of your training will be carried out in the workplace.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4 and above)

After this apprenticeship

It is anticipated that after you finish your apprenticeship, you will apply for a permanent role in the area you have been training in. As a big site however, there are many other avenues such as Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and Supply Chain that you may wish to further pursue. There may also be the opportunity to apply for a further Degree Apprenticeship in Engineering.
