Summary
We are an Independent Community Pharmacy. We are looking for an apprentice to join our team and to work as a registered professional delivering healthcare to the local community. We provide various NHS and Private services. Training and supervision will be provided by the Pharmacist who is also an Independent Prescriber.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Provide a fast and caring service for customers collecting prescriptions
- Giving over the counter advice
- Discussing other services available to customers
- Checking off incoming deliveries in line with delivery lists
- Collecting final check medicines from the pharmacist to hand to correct customer
- Handing prescriptions to the pharmacist
- Ordering stock
- Checking expiry dates on products and disposing of outdated products
- Checking stock levels and replenishing stock as required

Course contents
- Recognise and work within their scope of practice and skills,
- Use relevant data and information to make effective decisions
- Accurately retrieve and reconcile information about a person’s medicines
- Accurately assemble prescribed items
- Issue prescribed items safely and effectively and take action to deal with discrepancies carry out an accuracy check of dispensed medicines and products
- Accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations to ensure the safety of people
- Apply the principles of clinical governance and ensure person’s confidentiality
- Assess a person’s present supply of medicines and order appropriate medicines and products.
- Receive requests for medicines, including prescriptions, and check for their validity, safety and clarity, taking action to deal with any problems with the person directly
- Demonstrate operational skills within their scope of practice
- Provide a safe, effective and responsive pharmacy service
- Take personal responsibility for the legal, safe and efficient supply of medicines
- Apply the principles of governance to pharmacy operational processes
- Ensure the confidentiality of patient data.
- Communicate and work effectively with members of the multidisciplinary team
- Explain the impact of audit and evaluation on the quality of pharmacy operations and services
- Engage others in the improvement of processes and systems
- Effectively use systems to support the safe and effective management and supply of medicines
- Listen to a person, understand their needs and interpret what matters to them.
- Give the person all relevant information and advice in a way they can understand, so they can make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing
- Optimise a person’s medicines to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- Obtain relevant information from people – including patients, carers and other healthcare professionals – and use it to optimise care appropriately

Your training plan
This is a Level 3 Pharmacy Technician standard and includes the following
- In house training is provided by the employer in the workplace.
- The standard requires 20% off-the-job training, which is mandatory.
- This training will be provided by Mathew Boulton College in Birmingham, and the apprentice will attend one day per week as part of a day release schedule.
- Each apprentice will be allocated an assessor who will plan activities, send feedback and support the apprentice until the End Point Assessment (EPA). The End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) will then be responsible for assessing the apprentice.
- Apprentices are assessed based on their performance in the End Point Assessment (EPA), which occurs at the conclusion of the apprenticeship and typically lasts around 3 months.
- Occupation-focused; the standard is focused on the occupation, rather than being qualification-driven. Learning takes place throughout the apprenticeship, with an emphasis on key areas: knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSB).
- Qualification achieved on successful completion is a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3, equivalent to A level, which will enable you to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Wythall Pharmacy is an community pharmacy offering a range of NHS and private services. They are a small professional but friendly team providing advice on healthcare and all medical needs. These include dispensing prescriptions, providing Medicines Use Reviews (MURs), and the New Medicine Service (NMS). The pharmacy also offers multi-compliance compartment aids for patients who find it challenging to manage their medications.
After this apprenticeship
- Following successful completion of the training, an apprentice could be qualified to work as a lead pharmacy technician or accuracy checking roles
- A Level 3 Pharmacy Technician qualification, can lead to registration with the GPhC and a qualification which is recognised in the wider NHS
