We have an amazing opportunity to join us as an Apprentice Surveyor! Working in the Building Services team, you’ll learn the technical expertise to support your colleagues and our customers. From getting hands-on with surveys to learning about our customers and their homes, this is a great opportunity to kickstart your technical career in housing.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
What will I be doing?
- Helping out with surveys, including damp and mould assessments, disrepair and complaints
- Taking ownership of tasks and evidence-based recommendations on works needed to maintain our customers’ homes
- Spotting any health and safety hazards and making sure they’re reported to keep homes safe
- You’ll be getting out and about across Yorkshire as you travel with one of the team
- You’re the eyes and ears of Yorkshire Housing - you’ll constantly scan for ways we can provide a better service and allow our customers to live in a house they’re proud to call home
- You won’t walk by when you spot something that isn’t right, and you’ll make sure you deal with it or that it’s reported to the right team
- You’ll play a key role in working with trades and other colleagues to provide insight which will maximise customer experience and satisfaction and meet customers’ diverse needs, whilst balancing cost effectiveness.
- Although our services are primarily an in-house building repairs service, you’ll also help to manage contractors to complete works on time, correctly and meet contractual standards, escalating any issues if needed.

- Apply and integrate appropriate mathematical and technical knowledge in the completion of built environment site and/or office processes to contribute to the coordination of construction projects.
- Comply with health and safety regulations and procedures. Identify and document risks and hazards. Apply statutory and company environmental and safe working practices. Produce construction project risk assessment and method statements.
- Communicate verbally to internal and external stakeholders using a range of techniques in line with company policies.
- Interpret and abstract contract documentation to develop site solutions.
- Apply digital construction processes to produce resource lists from tender and contract documentation.
- The use of project tendering, measurement and costing systems to assist with the planning of schedules of work and to provide early warning of problems for all contract phases on site.
- Plan, carry out and manage own work in line with management requirements, assessing tasks, scheduling work, achieving deadlines, reviewing performance and keeping records of work undertaken.
- Apply sustainable principles and low carbon processes in order to implement site environmental solutions.
- Use information technology. For example, for document creation, communication, and information management. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
- Plan and undertake continued professional development (CPD) to maintain and enhance competence in their own area of practice.
- Communicate in written form to internal and external stakeholders using a range of techniques and reporting mechanisms in line with company policies, using construction and built environment terminology.

Your training plan
We have big plans for the future here at Yorkshire Housing and growing talent to support our customers across a range of trades plays a huge part in ensuring we can revolutionise our customer service offer. We’ll invest in you, our expert team will be on hand to support you through growing your technical and personal skills, all while working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment qualification, attending college one day a week.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 5 subjects including Maths & English (grade Level 4 (C) or above)
