Summary

We are seeking An Apprentice Welder, to Weld, Fabricate and Finish all components from Instruction from your team leader. You will be required to work from Jigs, Freehand and Line Drawings.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prime responsibility is to weld, fabricate and linish all components from job cards, working to manufacturing lists and drawings to meet Quality standards as required by the company
  • Collect and collate all materials and assembly jigs
  • Ensure all jobs are fully welded ready to handover to the next department
  • Daily machine total preventative maintenance checks
  • All jigs used to be returned to the correct racks
  • Ensure all hand tools are kept on the correct shadow boards
  • Bring to the attention of the Team leader any non-conforming items or practices
  • Adhere to any current quality operating procedures, an up to date copy will be retained by the Operations Director
  • Communication across all departments to ensure products hit the required lead time and each team are kept in the loop with any delays
  • Excellent housekeeping to be adhered to at all times

We are looking for someone that is reliable, enthusiastic, punctual and has a good attention to detail as well as a good attitude to learning. Good dexterity and co-ordination, an ability to read basic engineering drawings and the ability to use basic hand tools i.e. angle grinder and orbital sanders are not essential but an added bonus to ensure the right candidate in post.

Your training plan

Formal training is delivered at HWGTA located in Worcester (WR4 9GN):

  • Duration approximately 18 months

Block release training plus 1 day per week in a classroom setting to cover practical and theory aspects working to complete the following qualifications:

  • EAL Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills)
  • EAL Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations (Knowledge)

You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment.

Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.

There is also a five-day teambuilding residential.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade A*-C/ 4-9)
  • Mathematics (grade A*-C/ 4-9)
