Normal working hours will be 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday inclusive of an hour for lunch (37.5 hours per week). Hours of work may be varied at Management’s discretion

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What You’ll Do at Work

·       Dive into the exciting realm of Fire and Security Engineering, where you will service, commission, and maintain systems that protect individuals, homes, and properties.

·       Learn the ins and outs of our innovative fire and security systems, including intrusion detection, CCTV, and access control systems.

 

Work Experience:

You’ll spend significant time at our client sites, where you’ll be hands-on with servicing and repairing fire and security equipment. This invaluable experience will immerse you in the world of fire and security engineering.

 

Collaboration with Qualified Engineers:

·       Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll work closely with skilled JCI Engineers who will mentor you, guiding your development in engineering skills. This collaborative environment guarantees the support you need to flourish.

·       Hit the road in your own company van, traveling daily to client premises.

Course contents
  • Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
  • Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
  • Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
  • Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
  • Carries out risk assessments.
  • Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
  • Plan and install systems cabling.
  • Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.
  • Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components.

Your training plan

Enrol in a Level 3 Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician qualification delivered by Banham Academy alongside fellow Johnson Controls apprentices

Engage in block release basis training and receive on-the-job guidance from experienced mentors and engineers

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Grade 5)
  • Maths (grade Grade 5)

Other in:

  • Full UK Driving License (grade Full)
