Hours
40 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Times to be confirmed. No 2 days will be the same and although your office will be based in Norwich, you will be going to different sites, so will need to have a driving licence.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • As a Construction Site Supervisor Apprentice, within the Surfacing Solutions business you’ll be involved in all aspects from operational, commercial and administration.  
  • You will work with our contracts manager to provide a safe and efficient delivery of surfacing projects, including traffic management, minor civils, planning and lining.  
  • You will undertake theoretical and practical training to develop the knowledge, skills and experience required to ensure you have a thorough understanding of all areas. 
  • Time will be spent working within all operational departments. 
  • Although you will be based out of our office in Norwich, you will get the opportunity to travel to our sites around the region. Therefore, you must have a driving licence or have passed your test by August 2025.
  • If you’re one to tiptoe around puddles with trepidation, maybe this role isn’t for you. You won’t be spending every day in a clean, corporate office swivelling on an office chair.

Course contents
  • Identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours.
  • Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects.
  • Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
  • Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.
  • Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan.
  • Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects.
  • Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget.

Your training plan

Achieving a Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor Apprenticeship Standard, which includes a HNC in Construction Management. This will be on a day release basis at Norwich City College. 

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • 5 GCSE's including English, maths & Science (grade 5/C)
  • English (grade 5/C)
  • Science (grade 5/C)

BTEC or equivalent in:

  • Construction, engineering or a related topic (grade Merit or above)

GCSE in:

  • Maths (grade 5/C)

A Level in:

  • Maths, science, engineering, law, business etc (grade C and above)

Other requirements

You need to have 5 GCSE's grades 5-9 (A-C), as well as either A levels in related subjects (maths, engineering, business, law, science etc) or BTEC in Construction, Built Environment, engineering etc. You will need level 3 qualifications, as this is a higher apprenticeship (HNC). You will need a driving licence for this role.
