Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- You’ll be dismantling, examining, replacing, and reassembling mechanical and electrical systems and components
- Servicing and maintaining equipment
- Working on big yellow machinery to equipment that deals with dust, there will be lots to learn

Course contents
Your training plan
You will complete a Level 3 advanced Engineering Technician apprenticeship, where you will complete a 4 year programme. You will gain:
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
You will attend the Hereford Campus at Hereford, Ludlow and North Shropshire College 2 days a week in year 1 and 1 day a week in year 2 and 3.

In year one, you will concentrate on developing foundation engineering skills, such as:
- Milling and Turning: Mastering precision machining techniques.
- Maintenance: Developing skills to maintain and repair mechanical systems.
- Electrical Installation: Learning wiring and electrical systems for industrial applications.
- Hand Fitting: Gaining proficiency in assembling, aligning, and finishing components.
In years two and three, your time at college reduces to one day a week, allowing you to focus more on applying your skills in the workplace. During these years, you’ll build on your first-year experience, diving deeper into specialised areas of engineering, supported by expert tutors and workplace mentors within our engineering classrooms and labs.
