Summary

This is a great opportunity to start your career in Accountancy and will cover a range of accounting and bookkeeping functions within an accounting practice. Tasks will include assisting the existing team with their existing tasks and getting involved in performing day to day bookkeeping transactions for clients and other admin tasks.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

  • Client Bookkeeping
  • Prepare financial statements and reports
  • Analyse financial data and provide advice to management
  • Prepare and review budgets
  • Ensure accuracy of financial documents
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable
  • Maintain financial records and databases
  • Prepare tax returns and other government filings
  • Develop strategies to improve financial performance

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan

You will undertake the “Accounts / Finance Assistant” Apprenticeship (an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Accounting), with full support from Accountancy Learning as part of their Flexible Apprenticeship Programme.

More training information

Training will be provided through Accountancy Learning LTD. 

You will receive support from both the employer, and the training provider, to complete and achieve your Apprenticeship and will be given time to study during the week on a day release basis. As you are working towards a professional qualification, it is also expected that you will continue your studies outside of normal office hours.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 5)
  • Maths (grade 5)

Other requirements

The role will require some travel around the centre of Cambridge to visit clients. This would therefore require someone who would be comfortable and able to do this via their own transport/ public transport.

  • Once the Accounts Assistant apprenticeship is passed, we would expect normal progression to be on to the Assistant Accountant apprenticeship
