Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Challenge young people to effectively engage with their learning, aligning with the Chances Mentoring ethos.
- Contribute to the development of the provision as it grows, playing a vital role in its year-on-year expansion.
- Complete the daily paperwork to the required standard.
- Attend all meeting and training required.
- Support the teacher and students within lessons.
- Complete intervention with students.
- Support Students in the wider curriculum work. Our students are aged up to 16 years old.
- Provide transportation to and from the workplace, ensuring support for children during transit.
- Willingness to develop and support children in diverse situations.
- Understanding that each child is individual, requiring tailored support.

- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.

- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan
Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard Level 3.
You will attend weekly, off the job training sessions at the Oldham College.
Requirements
Desirable qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- English (grade 4-9/A*-C or equivalent)
- Maths (grade 4-9/A*-C or equivalent)
Other in:
- Ability to drive and transport children (grade Driving licence)
- Supporting young adults with SEMH and SEND needs (grade Experience)

Other requirements
You will be working with students aged up to 16 years old. Willingness to undertake training in relevant learning strategies. You will be expected to be flexible with the working hours. There is a degree of lifting and carrying that you will need to be able to carry out. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. You will be required undertake an enhanced DBS.
