Summary
Working with highly experienced engineers, you will gain experience in all aspects of product design and development. You will complete placements in all areas of the business, developing a complete understanding of how each function operates and interacts. In your final year, you will specialise in a certain area.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

- Product Design and Development.
- Practical Hands-on product/ material testing.
- Department placements; Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, Finance etc.

Course contents
- Foundation Stage: Complying with statutory regulations and stringent organisational safety requirements
- Foundation Stage: Producing components using hand fitting, fabrication and joining techniques
- Foundation Stage: Producing Computer Aided Design (CAD) models (drawings) using a CAD system
- Foundation Stage: Preparing and using lathes, milling and other general or specialist machines and high tech equipment
- Foundation Stage: Preparing and proving Computer Numeric Control programmes
- Foundation Stage: Using computer software packages to assist with and evaluate engineering activities
- Foundation Stage: Producing and managing engineering project plans
- Foundation Stage: Producing assemblies using a wide range of materials and techniques
- Development Team: Project management and scheduling engineering activities
- Development Team: Securing appropriate resources and managing budgets and resources
- Development Team: Implementing, monitoring and evaluating engineering processes
Your training plan
- The apprentice will be based in Fareham for 3 and a half days a week and at the University in Bognor the remainder of the week.
- The days at university will drop to one day a week in their 2nd year.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade C/4 or above)
- Maths (grade C/4 or above)
A Level in:
- 3 subjects (grade C or above)
Desirable qualifications
A Level in:
- Maths (grade C or above)

- relevant subject (grade PASS)
