Summary

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
You will support the Underwriters by ensuring all underwriting files are well-documented and organized.
You will make sure data in our systems is entered accurately, including checks like Sanctions verification and using pricing tools.
You will monitor third-party facilities, ensuring that everything with our partner arrangements is in place and running smoothly.
You will help maintain accurate records, contributing to the efficient operation of the underwriting process.

Course contents
- Ability to apply technical knowledge and experience to deliver positive outcomes to all stakeholders utilising appropriate policies and procedures.
- Ability to apply legal and insurance principles, knowledge of the market structure and its processes, procedures and documentation to a range of complex situations.
- Can proactively identify, generate and develop relationships and networks that support the role, including but not limited to internal/external/market led/professional and peer relationships. Can leverage relationships to improve the reliability of customer service based on customer feedback. Engages with and supports colleagues so that they are empowered to resolve customers issues within organisational guidelines.
- Takes ownership for delivering in their area of responsibility. Finds ways to progress and meet commitments when issues arise, being creative where appropriate. Escalates issues and decisions where necessary. Identifies and proposes business process improvements .
- Applies legal and regulatory requirements to work compliantly, whilst promoting a culture of treating customers fairly. Assesses whether organisational processes and procedures and those that follow them are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Provides technical advice and support to others on complex insurance matters.
Your training plan
Starting in September 2025, our Underwriting Apprentice program will give you the opportunity to develop a range of skills while spending two years working in one of our Underwriting teams. In addition to on-the-job development, you’ll spend 20% of your time participating in a Level 4 Insurance Specialist apprenticeship which will enable you to apply for your Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to embark on a career as an Underwriter and will provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviors for success.

Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:

Other requirements
This position is designed for, and ideally suited to, candidates holding 3 A-levels (or equivalent). Those with a higher level of qualification, such as a bachelors degree, are advised to apply to one of our other early careers programs or direct entry roles.
