You will support the teacher across bespoke learning programmes based on students' developmental ages and abilities.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

The Fitzroy Academy offers students a nurturing environment in which to grow, learn and develop. All of our staff are trained in Reflective Therapeutic Intervention to ensure a consistent approach to managing behaviour. This compliments a structured provision along with our high expectations and individual plans to best support the learning and behaviour needs of each student as well as supporting with personal-care.
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to work within small classes with a class teacher, to support small groups or individuals to access bespoke learning programmes based on their developmental ages and abilities.
The post is ideal for someone wanting to start their career in SEN education. Full training will be provided, following a structured induction programme.
It is in a rural location so a driving licence or access to good transport links is required. There is onsite parking.

  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. The Fitzroy Academy will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day. You will be working towards the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard, which includes:

• Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours

• Level 3 Teaching Assistant Standard

• CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent

• Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (by exception)

This will be delivered through The Fitzroy Academy’s dedicated training provider, Realise. Realise is an established training provider that’s enjoying an exciting period of growth following a management buyout and rebrand in late 2020.
