Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Support PE teacher with after school sporting clubs.

  • When working in class, under the direction of the teacher, provide support to individual children/small groups of children in the completion of a wide range of learning activities including reading, writing, mathematics etc, so that they achieve/complete the task for that session.
  • Provide support in such a way as to facilitate the child’s/children’s independent learning, by explanation, encouragement etc.
  • Influence the behaviour of children in the group by reinforci standards set by the teacher and within the school’s behaviour policy.
  • In line with the requirements set by the teacher assist in the preparation the teaching room/area for the session activities including setting up furniture and resources ensuring that the teacher has all the resources specified a that the environment is safe for children to use.
  • Assist the teacher by undertaking duties such as photocopying, setting up/replacing displays in the classroom etc.
  • Undertake First Aid duties in line with qualification/training received and act in line with the schools accident/incident policy.
  • Perform duties in line with Health & Safety rules and to take remedial action where hazards are identified. Whe hazards are serious report to line manager immediately.

  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

Training will take place at home, the workplace or Twickenham Training Centre. This will be one day a week.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
