Summary

To work under the direct instruction of teaching and support staff, in the classroom, school nursery and during wrap around care. Provide general support to the leader in the care of pupils and management of the school environment. This role is term time only.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Provide structured support in accordance with specific work programmes designed and supervised by individual teachers
  • Support the teacher in the development and implementation of Individual Education/ Behaviour Plans
  • Assist in maintaining discipline through the implementation of the school’s behaviour management strategies
  • Provide support to pupils to achieve learning goals, e.g., guided reading
  • Assist the teacher / leader with the planning of learning activities

  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
